Ch.7 Dead for sure

'Come to think of it, it was really a mistake to use the frost spell. After all it is a control-class spell with a limited power. If it was an attack-class like explosion spell, then even with his defense type magic weapon, he wouldn’t be in a good shape. Just the shock wave generated by the explosion spell is enough to throw him in the sky. Well, that was just an accident. It’s not too late to use the explosion spell.'

Raymond comforted himself, then started chanting the explosion spell with confidence. This time Raymond was calm. He didn’t shorten the chant nor used high-speed casting, just standing there chanting. Everything was perfect like the textbook, from the arrangement of elements to the rotation of magic, even the most strict teacher wouldn’t be able to find a fault in it.

‘This time there will be no more accidents’

Raymond proudly said to himself.

Before Raymond could finish chanting, there was a sound of wind whistling.

He just heard the sound *swish*, as if the air was torn, then he felt  pain on his shoulders and he was flung in the air like a broken kite, then he fell on the ground a few meters away.

Raymond felt that his shoulders were on fire. Then he recognized the sharp piercing sound he’d just heard, it was hurricane whip, the level 2 spell hurricane whip.

But recognizing the sound didn’t mean that he understood what was happening. In fact, it made him more confused.

‘What is happening? How could there be a hurricane whip?’

Raymond thought

‘Could i have chanted the wrong spell and turned explosion into hurricane whip by mistake? Or do you want to me believe that a level 9 apprentice can caste a hurricane whip? ’

The answer came very fast.

Before Raymond could stand up, he heard the sharp piercing sound again followed by the pain on his shoulders then again he was flung into the air.

“NO”

Raymond was lying on the ground with a blank mind.

‘What’s happening? I didn’t chant anything this time? How can there be a hurricane whip? Could it be….’

As Raymond came to realization, his face paled. A mage, even an incompetent one, wouldn’t make a mistake in casting a spell, two times in a row. Even if he did the resulting spell would be different. The only logical explanation is that the two hurricane whip spells were caste by the level 9 apprentice.

‘No, No, it’d be wrong to call him an apprentice ’

‘That bastard just raised his hand and two hurricane whips appeared. He clearly used a combination of chant shortening and silent chanting. Shit, this bastard is a mage that mastered at least 2 magical skills’

Raymond wanted to kill himself.

‘If you’re a mage, why pretend to be an apprentice? Did you do this just to get the chance to cast two hurricane whips on me? Or do you have a fetish? ’

Raymond couldn’t figure out when ‘this bastard’ advanced to the mage level.

'obviously it was less than a month. How could a level 9 apprentice suddenly become a mage and even learn at least two magical skills. Does that make sense?’

“How did you advance all of a sudden?”

“Why not?”

Lin Yun looked at Raymond with a strange look and didn’t explain

“Right, when you go back, Don’t forget to thank your father.”

“What do you mean?”

Lin Yun had no intention to answer.

If Lin Yun didn’t remember the honorable old man, then Raymond would be already dead meat the moment he caste the frost spell.

Almost at the same time he sensed the fluctuations of magic, he condensed an icicle in his hand. The moment the frost spell is caste, the icicle would’ve been released and stabbed Raymond in the head.

That’s why Lin Yun told Raymond to thank old Pavier. The moment Lin Yun was about to throw the icicle, he remembered that he’s no longer living in the final era, and the frost spell wasn’t meant to kill him anyway, not to mention the other party's father was an honorable old man.

So Lin Yun dispelled the icicle and formed a crude mana shield to resist the frost spell instead.

“Right, come over and lend me a hand.”

It was still using the annoying commanding tone, but this time Raymond didn’t dare to say anything. It wasn’t a good idea to piss off a mage that could casually cast two hurricane spells. So Raymond swallowed his pride and asked :

“What do you want me to do?”

“Enchant them”

Lin Yun pointed to glass bottles next to him.

“OK”

Enchanting is the easiest alchemical skill. For Raymond who was a mage, it wasn’t difficult. After all, all magi knew something or two about alchemy. There were many high level magi who were also top class alchemists.

Since its birth, alchemy has always been intertwined with magic. They complemented each other. If you want to advance in the world of magic, you will need the help of alchemy. Alchemy artifacts can increase your combat power, Elixirs can replenish your health when you need, Automata can be considered a strategic weapon.

A mage who doesn’t have the support of alchemy, his achievements would be limited even if he was a genius.

Without enough magic knowledge, you wouldn’t understand the complex alchemical formulas. And without the ability to cast spells, you wouldn’t be able to create magic weapons.

Raymond’s skill in alchemy wasn’t high enough to create magic weapons, but it was enough to enchant a few bottles. He enchanted them while thinking:

‘when did that bastard became a mage. Huh, what’s this smell?’

While Raymond was in deep thought, an intense smell jolted him. Raymond frowned from the disgusting smell, then the look on his face changed.

Because Raymond saw that the person in front of him threw a flame stone in the test tube.

“What the ....”

Raymond gasped for air. Once the flame stone come in touch with mana it will instantly heat up to a few hundred degree. And it was simply thrown in the red coral solution.

‘In the end, I was really killed by that bastard’

As the flame stone fell in the test tube, it produced red light. And Raymond felt the high temperature touching his face.

Raymond wanted to curse, but it was already too late. With the high temperature, the red coral solution finally erupted. The mana was raging, and the red light intensity was rising until it made the Laboratory looks like it was painted with blood, and red bubbles were coming out of the test tube. As Raymond felt the violent mana fluctuations, he closed his eyes:

“This time, I’m dead for sure”
