Ch.12 Tell him to get lost
At that time, there was a knock on the door of the reception room on the top of the tower of sages.
In the reception room, 3 people setting were setting there. An old man, a middle aged man and a young one. The old man was wearing a grey robe, was a skinny man with a grey beard. As he was sitting, he coughed every now and then. It seemed that his body wasn’t in a good condition. And opposite to him, sat the middle aged man who was full of vigor. He combed his hair and beard neatly. Even though the robe he wore didn’t seem fancy or expensive, anyone with a discerning eye would recognize the hidden elegance in it and would know that it was crafted by a famous craftsman. The average person would need to work for an entire year in order to afford it.
The young man next to him didn’t look like he had reached the age of 30 yet. But the shocking thing was that there were silver patterns on the sleeves of his black robe.
That meant that the young man was an archmage even though he didn’t reach 30 yet.
But the middle aged man and the young one showed a respectful and humble attitude towards the old man.
The name of that old man was Saruman, the president of the magi guild branch in thousand sails city and one of the big three of the tower of sages.
(TN: shouldn’t the tower be called Isengard instead)
In thousand sails city, the three hegemons of the tower of sages were legendary figures. People rarely saw them, but almost all of them knew that those legendary figures advanced from the level of archmage to the level of wizard decades ago. No one knows what is their current level.
Their existence was the reason that the tower of sages reigned over thousand sails city with no one to challenge them. After all, who would be willing to face the anger of 3 wizards. They weren’t some benevolent old men . There were once an infamous group of bandits called Black wing. There numbers were in thousands, but in the end they were burned to ashes by the three wizards and none of them survived.
“Come in”
The knock on the door interrupted the 3 people in the room, and the old man smiled apologetically to his guests.
“President Manning, Mage Ryan, Sorry for bothering you”
It was a mage in his thirties that knocked on the door. If Lin Yun was there, he would recognize him. He was the mage that took Mason away. At that time, Lin Yun found him interesting.
After entering the room, the mage apologized to the two guests and then whispered something in Saruman’s ears.
“Oh, I see.”
After listening to the report of the young mage, Saruman just nodded his head and didn’t say much. Then he smiled apologetically to the 2 guests and said:
“Forgive me president Manning, but there was an incident in the library.”
“The library?”
Manning’s eye twitched when he heard the word library.
‘Isn’t Mason in the library right now?’
How can he not know what’s his son, Mason, like. He liked to use the family’s power to oppress others, and now with Ryan’s advancement he was out of control. In the last meeting of the seven chambers of commerce, he found an excuse to beat the son of Rogge Merlin.
Manning spent a lot of money, and had to hold the losing end in a business deal, just to send his son to the library of the tower of sages. And before he left, he made sure to drill into his head that the tower of sage wasn’t an ordinary place and he shouldn’t bring trouble for himself nor the family.
Manning made a note to himself, that when he go back home, he would make sure to teach Mason a lesson.
Manning hesitated a moment before asking:
“It’s Mason, Isn’t it?”
“Just a small problem.”
Saruman waved his hand and smiled.
“There was a little disagreement between Mason and another young mage. But don’t worry, Sauron already brought the situation under control.”
(TN: for Sauron to be working under Saruman, the author sure has a vivid imagination)
“I apologize.”
As Manning apologized, he secretly sighed in relief. From Saruman’s tone, it seemed that the mage didn’t belong to the tower of sages. So he just apologized to show respect to the tower.
As for that young mage, it'd be best for him to know his place. Manning’s family wasn’t an easy target that anyone could pick on.
He just needed to show a sensible attitude towards the tower and there would be no problem. After all, the cooperation plan that he proposed, was extremely attractive to the tower. If it wasn’t a big problem, Saruman would give him face.
And as Manning expected, Saruman accepted his apology and dropped the matter and they continued their talks. Soon the business talks finished and turned into a friendly chat and the atmosphere in the room became harmonious.
During their chat, Saruman even recalled two of his adventures. Saruman had advanced to the wizard rank 10 years ago. So his experience was an eye opener whether of the wealthy Manning or the young archmage, Ryan.
When they were leaving, Saruman walked them to the door. That was a rare treatment that only happens once every few years.
After he sent them off, Saruman returned to the reception room. Sauron who was waiting there asked:
“Master, should I go console Mason? ”
From Sauron point of view, since his master was chatting with Manning and his son Ryan then it was likely that the tower of sages and the twin moons chamber of commerce were going to enter some sort of cooperation relationship. Since he kicked Mason out of the library, he needed to console him to avoid souring the relations with Manning before the upcoming cooperation.
“Console what, Tell him to get lost”
Who knew that the old man would use such a foul language.
